MeVis’ Distant Services segment offers a service unrivalled anywhere in the world to its clinical partners for preoperative planning of liver surgery.
Up to now, the liver surgeon was dependent on the two-dimensional cross-sectional images from computed tomography or magnetic-resonance imaging. The Distant Services Team (MDS) is now able to provide surgeons with a three-dimensional reconstruction of the liver with the following results:

The cross-sectional data is converted into 3D images by a highly skilled and trained team, providing the surgeon a detailed perspective of the liver. To do so, MeVis uses its LiverAnalyzer software. In addition, the MeVis LiverViewer enables the physicians direct access to the results and analyses in a 2D and 3D environment.
The images generated using MeVis technology can be rotated on all planes and consequently adjusted for specific surgical requirements. Since the launch of this commercial service in 2005, MeVis has built a global base of over 150 customers. During this period, more than 4,500 risk analyses have been completed.

The services provided by MeVis are also suitable for operations to the pancreas and kidneys. Using the proven surgery and therapy support which MeVis has developed for liver diseases, it is also possible to identify functional units in other diseased organs, such as arterial supply areas, to ensure that operations exert as little strain as possible on patients.
