With this Award the ”Society of Friends of the University Bremen and the Jacobs University Bremen” honors outstanding scientific work.

The dissertation is about mathematical modeling of the transport and the chemical reaction in materials with porous micro-structure, for example in concrete and biological tissue. In industry these questions play a major role e.g. for the construction of ferroconcrete with a specific life expectancy. Today, through improved processing power, it is possible to use models which capture the effects of microstructures, for example pore blocking or the adsorption of water. In the dissertation theoretical aspects of such multiscale models were investigated.
