History

Established in 1997, the origin of MeVis dates back to 1992, the year of foundation of the Center for Complex Systems and Visualization (CeVis) at Bremen University. Prof. Dr. Heinz-Otto Peitgen, for many years chairman of the supervisory board of MeVis Medical Solutions AG, significantly influenced this development.

Preceding projects of CeVis and DKFZ (German Cancer Research Center) in Heidelberg provided decisive impulses for the conception of MeVis.

This development resulted in two independent companies, the Fraunhofer Institute for Medical Image Computing MEVIS (focusing on science and research) and MeVis Medical Solutions AG (concentrating on the commercial development and marketing of applications).

Based on the scientific achievements in the field of research, MeVis Medical Solutions AG was established to develop and market commercially successful disease-oriented products. Since 2007, MeVis Medical Solutions AG is listed on the stock exchange. Since being founded, MeVis operates in the field of  computer assisted, image-based medical diagnostics and therapy and today employs a staff of more than 140 members.
